Bumper Sticker

Bumper Sticker is from the design portion of the DS106 assignment bank worth 3.5 stars.  The most difficult part of this assignment is coming up with an original idea.  It seems every time you see a bumper sticker you think “How did they come up with that?”  There can’t possibly be a bumper sticker that hasn’t been created yet!  I’m making a large assumption that the one I made hasn’t been made yet either.  I created another project with Gimp and decided to use the same software for this one as well.  I’ve already noticed that using Gimp the second time has already proved to be a little easier than the first. Even though the amount of manipulation is minimal the software seems more intuitive this time using it and I’m sure if I were doing more complicated task I may not feel this way.  Here is the link to Gimp if you want to download it for free.

I did have to watch a few tutorials about how to manipulate different layers of my work and how to select my final product off of the canvas.  Basically what I’m trying to say is I had a canvas not shaped like a traditional bumper sticker so I used the selection tool to trace a rectangle around the portion I wanted to use.  I took a screen shot of my work once I had everything placed where I thought it should go.  If you look at the right side of the page you can see there are 3 layers to my work.  I used a green base layer or background with yellow text (I found a tutorial how to change text color) and then found an image on google and changed the size of it to fit my design. gimpedit

I then used the selection tool to select the portion of the canvas I was working and copied it into a new editing window.  You can see at the top center of this screenshot there are 2 works, one original and one with the size I made with the selection tool.

After I had this new size—— I’ll admit there is probably an easier way to trim or resize your original work to the size you want without the selection tool and creation of another window or piece of work—– I saved it as a .png to my desktop.

This is what my finished product looks like.
